Hopefully four weeks off from running will be enough. With the cross-training on the bike, maybe I can get back and up to distance in time to run the Newport Marathon.

A few days ago I felt some discomfort under the kneecap when climbing. Today, not really. Maybe. I might not have been pushing very hard. Whatever. Get it done.

Today’s ride was a 6.28 mile mildly rolling route. Pace was 4:56.

Switching back to the bike, and scrapping upcoming races. Hate it, but the knee is in charge. I figure I’ll avoid running for four solid weeks. If I have to stop, might as well really stop. After a few weeks I’ll start mild pressure and twisting tests, and use those to inform when it’s OK to start running again.

Today’s ride was an easy 4.62 file mildly rolling route. Pace was 5:13.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:56. Taking it as easy as possible to see if I can still run on this knee, or if I need to back off for several weeks to really let things heal.

Training Log 06/14/2022

Took a few days off to rest the knee. Put the brace on yesterday (try anything, right?), took some Allieve last night, and woke up this morning feeling fine. Strange.

Today’s run was a 4.21 mile mildly flat route. Pace was 9:50.

A later morning run. Get out in the sun to get used to it. Unfortunately, later means more traffic. Some drivers like to get a bit close as the go by to remind you that they own the road. Whatever. Just keep your head down and work.

Today’s run was a 6.88 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:47.

A rainy, humid morning. Welcome to summer. Good training weather.

The knee is “annoyed” but I think it’s just tendons and ligaments not 100% healed yet.

Today’s run was a 4.37 mile mildly rolling route with a short, steep hill (10%) at the end. Pace was 9:48.

Another nice morning for an early run. Cool and clear. Probably won’t be this way tomorrow.

The knee is OK. I put side pressure on my leg while sleeping/shifting around and it woke me up a bit. It’s not bad, but I notice it. Caution is the “name of the game” these days. Pay attention to everything.

Today’s run was a 4.21 mile mildly rolling route. Pace was 9:49.

Training Log 06/06/2022

Nice, cool morning for an early run. Woke up a bit stiff after hours of yard work yesterday. Whatever. Time to train.

The knee feels good. It’s spooky. I almost don’t want to believe it.

Today’s run was a fairly flat 2.18 mile route. Pace was 9:30.

Training Log 06/05/2022

Decided to “run” an errand as part of today’s run. It’s essentially the same distance to a blue mail drop as I had planned for today,. A little multi-tasking is seldom a bad idea.

Knee wasn’t bad. I think the discomfort I’m feeling (I wouldn’t really call it pain) is just tendons and ligaments being stressed after being injured. Time will tell.

I found a room in Anchorage for the Runfest in August that’s around $500 total for the three days. Much better than the $1,400 that I had booked.

Today’s run was a 2.16 mile route with some climb. Pace was 9:49.

Day two of the early morning run/bike rehab. Still feels OK going into the afternoon. I did notice that there was a bit of irritation/pain on the run when going downhill. It wasn’t bad at all, and I didn’t notice anything on other parts of the run or on the bike.

Today’s run was a 1.5 mile hills route. Pace was 9:52. Bike route was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 4:59.
