Training Log 08/03/2022

Clear, mild, completely calm morning. Not a cloud in the sky.. Temperature about 68 degrees. When there’s absolutely no wind, you can feel where the cooler spots are on a route. There are cold spots where, in the winter, it’ll be ice on the road while everywhere else it’s rain.

Today’s ride was a 5.03 mile mildly rolling route. Pace was 4:36.

Training Run 07/23/2022

A hot, baking sun type morning for a run. Good training weather. I has planned for about another mile or so but decided to scale it back. It’s the first day running in the heat. One step at a time. It takes time to get used to it. Pushing too far too soon is the way to get injured.

The knee wasn’t bad at all. Still wearing a wrap/brace. The wrap doesn’t have any metal, so while it does help to “brace” the knee it is more of a tight wrap.

Today’s run was a 3.32 mile mostly flat route. Pace was 9:48.

Training Log 07/21/2022

Ran today with the regular, current style of Hokas () I’ve been wearing for well over a year. No difference, and no real discomfort on the run. Wore the knee brace/wrap, but if for a while that’s what it takes then OK.

Today’s run was a 2.47 mile mildly rolling route with a short 10% grade hill at the end. Pace was an easy 10:05.

Training Log 07/20/2022

Tried something a bit different this morning: a knee brace and an old pair of Hokas that aren’t the same as what I’m running in now. Try anything. We don’t quit. There was some mild discomfort in some places but nothing like Monday. Hmmm. I’ll try the current Hokas and the knee brace tomorrow.

Today’s run was a 2.41 mile mostly flat route with a 0.2 mile 10% average grade hill thrown in at the end. No clue on pace. It wasn’t fast at all but it wasn’t hobbling along. Very easy at the start.

Training Log 07/18/2022

First day to try a run. Knee pain is definitely still there. We’ll see how it feels as the day progresses.

Today’s run was a 1.04 mile mildly rolling route. Pace was a “trying to be minimally impacting” 10:17.

Training Log 07/14/2022

Although we don’t explicitly avoid training in “adverse conditions,” it’s not too bad when storms and rain in general can be avoided. Bike tires do skid around a bit more on wet roads. This morning it poured at 4:30 but by 5AM it stopped. I’ll take it.

Today’s ride was a 7.57 mile hills route. Pace was 4:33.

Training Log 07/12/2022

Another not-too-cool and dry early morning for a ride. The knee feels like it’s getting better. The earliest I plan to test it out with some running is next week.

Today’s ride was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 4:14.
