Training Log 01/02/2023

The left glut is very sore. Can’t bend over much (= stretch it) at all. OK — a combination of a light jog and walking. We do not give up.

Today’s run/walk was a 5.24 mile hills route. “Pace” was 12:59. Weight was 146.2.

Training Log 01/01/2023

First day of the year and already I’m doing something to myself. This is getting old. It’s easy to over-push when running a race. I did that once before. Pulled something in the left glut at this morning’s race. It limited the speed that I could go, but it wasn’t a total disaster. I felt pretty good at the end — not really all that tired at all. Now it’s getting laser-focused on recovery ASAP.

Today’s run was a 13.1 mile fairly flat half marathon. Pace was 9:33. Weight was 145.8.

Training Log 12/31/2022

Race prep day. Nice, easy run. Everything feels OK — something must be wrong!

Today’s run was a fairly flat 2.34 mile route with the short 10+% grade hill at the end. Pace was 9:54. Weight was 146.2.

Training Log 12/29/2022

Gearing up for the first race of 2023. The route this early morning is busy with traffic and littered with potholes in places. The run was half work and half tap-dancing around land mines. Speed was slow, but with the traffic and everything I wasn’t too concerned.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was a slow 10:22 or so. Had to stop a few times at intersections. Weight was 146.4.

Training Log 12/27/2022

A bit of a “take it easy and relax” day. Put in a few miles, but remember that it takes time to work into it all. Speed will come.

Weather wasn’t crazy cold. The breeze was a bit nippy, but nothing too bad.

Today’s run was a 5.24 mile hills route with the short 10+% grade hill done twice. Pace was 10:05. Weight was 146.6.

Training Log 12/26/2022

Not quite as cold this morning. Yesterday was about 10 degrees and a wind chill of -5. Today it’s more like 18 degrees and a wind chill of 1. Wow — heat wave.

The breeze is still there. It really doesn’t take much of a breeze to really numb your face. I almost took a scarf “just in case.” Lesson learned — better to have it and not need it.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:47. Weight was 146.6.

Training Log 12/25/2022

A very cold and breezy morning. The stiff wind really freezes the face! Time to find that neck scarf I wear when skiing.

Today’s route was a 7.27 mile mostly flat route, with the short 10+% grade hill at the end. Pace was 9:17. Weight was 146.4.

Training Log 12/24/2022

A bit of a change in the weather. This morning it’s 3 degrees with a wind chill of about -8 or so. In weather like this, we do need to be respectful and plan for the unexpected. What do you do if you’re six miles away and badly twist an ankle? Summer has its issues, such as being sure that you have hydration with you on longer runs. It’s doable. Just takes some planning.

Today’s run was a 5.24 mile hills route, with the short 10+% grade hill twice. Pace was 9:41. Weight was 146.4.

Training Log 12/22/2022

A clear, typically cold early morning. The new shoes are pushing and rubbing on the bottom of my right ankle. Very sore. They’re the same brand and model as what I’ve been wearing for quite a while. Whatever.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills run. Pace was 9:56. Weight was 146.6.

Training Log 12/19/2022

A nice, cold (ish) morning for an early run. It’s a bit of a “recovery” day. Take it easy and just get everything loose and warm.

Today’s run was a 2.32 mile rather flat route, with the short 10+% grade hill at the end. Pace was 10:08. Weight was 146.8.
