Training Log 04/16/2023

Whew. Long run Sunday. Perfect weather: temperature around 54 degrees, overcast and a cool breeze. Felt OK.

Today’s run was a 24.45 mile rolling hills with a 6 mile most flat part at the end. Pace was 10:20. Weight was 144.8.

Training Log 04/14/2023

A nice, spring/summer early morning for a run. Temperatures ranged from around 61 to probably 68 or so. Part of the run was along roads where it was distinctly warmer. Interesting.

A few days ago the run was really tired. Each step was a slog. Since then I’ve been really focused on the diet. Need good fuel. We know that we should be eating fruits and vegetables. OK — get on it. Not sure if today was an early result indicator, but it wasn’t too bad at all.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:36. Weight was 146.0.

A very tired early morning run. Legs complained the entire way. One of those days when it feels like you’re running in water. Much warmer, though. Temperature was about 56 degrees. We’ve gone from winter to just about summer in two days.

Today’s run was a slog of a 6.88 mile hills route. Pace was 9:52. Weight was 144.6.

It’s still a bit cold in the early morning. This morning was about 29 degrees. Not winter, but annoyingly chilly. Enough of winter already.

Didn’t feel too bad on the run this morning, except for the back. Some days it’s better and some it’s tender. Whatever.

Today’s run was a 13.1 hills route. 1000+ feet of climb, including four up a short 10+ grade hill. Pace was just about exactly like last week at 10:13. Weight was 146.4.

Training Log 04/07/2023

Nice, cool early morning for a run. The wind still has a bite, but it’s no longer a bitter wind. It’s also getting light out earlier. Don’t mind seeing more where I’m going at all.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 10:05. Weight was 146.8.

Training Log 04/06/2023

A damp, foggy, misty early morning for a run. Nothing I really notice, but I’m rather wet by time I get back. It’s interesting what we can ignore, what’s not important, etc., when you on the road. Focus. Pay attention to what’s important and ignore the trivial.

I thing that I can’t ignore: tar strips on the road to fill cracks are very slippery when wet. Gotta pay close attention and step around them when going down a hill.

Today’s run was a 13.1 mile hills route. Total climb a bit over 1000 feet. Pace was 10:13.

Training Log 04/04/2023

A mild morning for a run. Temps around 40 degrees. It was also a tired run. Some days just feel like a total slog. It’s good practice — work through it.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:53. Weight was 145.8.

Training Log 04/03/2023

Took a few days off to rest an annoyingly delicate back. Probably slept wrong or something. Whatever. Back to it.

It was a rather cold morning for early April. Temperatures around 21 degrees and not a cloud in the sky in the early morning (4:30AM). It’s odd how, coming out of winter, 21 degrees really didn’t feel that cold at all. Not much wind probably helped.

Today’s run was a 5.24 mile hills route that included two climbs of a short 10+% grade hill. Pace was a relaxed 10:06. Weight was 146.4.

Training Log 03/30/2023

Not quite as cold this morning, but far windier. It does blow some debris on the roads, and in the dark it’s harder to see. Running into the wind is actually a good thing — more work per mile. That’s what I’m out here for.

Today’s run was a relaxed 11 mile rolling hills route. Pace was about 10:00. Hard to say exactly — too many stops for traffic. Weight was 146.0.

Training Log 03/29/2023

A cold-ish morning. Clear and not much wind, but the breeze at times froze the nose a bit. It’s the last days of the cold weather. Enjoy it while it’s here.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:59 or so. Hard to estimate how much time is lost waiting at street crossing, red lights, etc. Weight was 146.6.
