One more cool, dry early morning. Temperature around 42 degrees. I’ll pay for it later — it’ll probably be 75 and 110% humidity next week.

Not feeling too bad. Daily work isn’t stressing anything too much.

Today’s run was an 11.0 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:53. Weight was 144.8.

Another comfortable early morning for a run. Temperature around 46 and a mild breeze. Nice and easy, use the start of the run to loosen up, relax, etc., etc.

Today’s run was a 5.1 mile hills route. Pace was 9:44. Weight was 144.0.

Nice, cool morning for a run. With the Sun coming up earlier, it’s getting lighter out early enough to see all the potholes. Really appreciate that. I wouldn’t mind avoiding twisted ankles, knees, etc.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:38. Weight was 144.4.

Training Log 02/22/2023

A somewhat tired early morning run. Cool, humid, somewhat damp, and a cold breeze at times. Whatever. Head down and go.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:48. Weight was 144.4.

Mild, humid, cloudy morning for a run. Still all kinds of pollen in the air. We’re to get some rain today, so it’ll be interesting tomorrow morning to see if there’s any noticeable difference.

Didn’t feel too bad at all today. A bit tired at the start, but I usually start slow. Three weeks or so to the Lake Placid race.

Today’s run was a 7.1 mile hills route, with 400 feet of climb. Pace was 9:31. Weight was 143.8.

Training Log 05/18/2023

A cold, clear morning. Temperature around 31 when I left and 28 when I got back. I’ll take it, but it is odd for mid-May.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:49. Weight was 144.6.

Training Log 05/16/2023

A dusty, pollen-filled early morning. There hasn’t been any rain in quite a while, so there’s all kinds of junk in the air. I briefly thought about wearing a mask.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:29. Weight was 143.8.

Used yesterday to mow the prairie get caught up in general. Time to get back to road work. Lake Placid is in four weeks. Still feeling this cold/covid. Whatever. Head down and go.

Went out to run at about 11:45AM. Sunshine and in the 60’s. I’ll take it. Had to sort-of rescue a small dog who ran out onto a busy road just to say “hi.” I’ve had it happen before, especially with larger-breed puppies. No discipline and bottled-up energy. “Oh, boy!! Let’s go run with that guy!!”

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:41. Weight was 143.0.

Came back from Cincinnati with Covid. Oh, joy. It seems like a cold with a fever, but I’ve been taking it easy never the less. Better to be cautious. We’ve all heard horror stories.

This morning was the first run after the race on Sunday. Just wanted to get out and see how everything felt. Started “creaky” but got better. Nice, cool, dry weather.

Today’s run was a 2.18 mile mostly flat route. Pace was 9:57. Weight was 143.0.

Race day. Had everything ready to go. I packed a bit, and I’m glad I did. That includes rain gear. Didn’t need the pants or jacket since it was 61 degrees at the 6:30 race start time. I did pack into the CamelBack the rain jacket just in case.

The deluge (and I mean utter deluge) started maybe a mile into the race. We crossed three large bridges in a nasty lightening storm. Wow. It poured for about 20 minutes and all the roads turned into rivers and lakes. Except for running through big metal framing with lightening all around, it didn’t bother me one bit. Liquid coolant. I’ll take it.

I felt pretty good throughout the race, especially in the later miles. Yeah, I was tired and things were aching a bit, but I was pushing and didn’t feel at all like the energy was gone. Very different than the Hyannis Marathon in March.

Today’s race was the Cincinnati “Flying Pig” Marathon. Time was 4:26:48, which was a 10:11 pace. The pace in the first 6.4 miles was 10:29 because of soooooo many people on narrow, flooded on/off ramps. The people running the half didn’t split off until about mile 8. The last half pace was 10:03 and the last mile was 9:43.
