Race day. Terrible conditions. Bright and sunny, somewhat humid, and temperature in the mid-70’s. I’ve been training in temperatures in the low 40’s. There was a chance for rain but it moved through the night before. Whatever. No excuses. I stopped to get some water at most stations later in the race and dumped most it on my head.
I saw a woman collapse right at the 25-mile point. Jarring. The medical people said that lots of half-marathon people had trouble. I wasn’t really dehydrated since I run with a CamelBak.
The race wasn’t too bad though. I had to mix in walking and running for the last half, but I found that I could really push for a bit before taking the break to catch my breath. Very odd. I’m thinking it was too much of a focus on bike work and not enough long-distance work. Interesting. Mix both together sounds like the way forward.
Today’s race was the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. Total time was about 4:36:00, or a 10:32 pace.
