A wet early morning for a run. Rain isn’t an issue. Running along the berms of road in rivers and lakes is a bit of an issue. It’s good work, but sometimes stones, small bits of branches, etc., get washed onto roads and aren’t fun to twist something on. The shoes get heavy but that’s good: heavier means more work. No complaints here.

Today’s run was an 11 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:51. I keep forgetting to check the weight first thing before hitting the road.

Nice, easy, focused run this morning. Pay attention to form, energy management, etc., as the terrain varies from flat to climbs. It’s easy to forget to think about form and slowly slip into bad habits.

Today’s run was a 5.91 mile hills route. Pace was 10:12.

A not-dry but at least not storming early morning for a run. Temperature said 59 or so but it felt warmer. I haven’t worked in long runs in a while so it’s time to get back to those. Took it nice and very easy on the first longer run. Start slow and work back into it.

Today’s run was a 17.32 mile rolling hills route. Pace was somewhere around an easy 10:23. Several stops for traffic lights.

What a deluge. The remnants of a tropical storm was dumping lots of rain. I nixed a long run — too risky to run 20+ miles when you can’t see debris, potholes, etc. Never mind running along the berms of roads where the lakes are. I’ll see what I can do Monday or Tuesday.

Today’s run was a 5.25 mile hills route, including a short 10+% grade hill at the end. Pace was 9:35. DIdn’t feel that fast at all.

Training Log 09/23/2023

Mid-morning run in some cool conditions. I wore a light jacket and sweats to add a little heat stress. The hip is still annoyingly sore. It’s something that’s been nagging a bit since Erie. Not an official “problem” but noticeable sometimes.

Today’s run was a 5.5 mile hills route. Pace was 9:47. Weight was 145.0.

A later morning run in the bright Sun. Temperature around 65 and not a cloud in the sky. A bit of a gentle breeze but that’s it. Good to get out and get some work in with the Sun still cooking a bit.

Today’s run was a mildly rolling 9.25 mile route. Pace was 9:20.

An easy recovery run this morning. Take it slow, work out all the kinks, etc. For me, taking a day off is no where near as effective in “recovery” as is a gentle, relaxed jog for a few miles. Work up a little sweat, get the muscles and joints warm, etc., etc.

Today’s run was a 2.18 mile very gently rolling (almost flat) route. Pace was an easy 10:01.

A mild, sunny late morning/afternoon for a run. Glad to get out in the daytime for some work. Most of my work is in the predawn hours. It’s more of a workout with the Sun beating down on you.

Today’s run was 14.75 or so miles of a 17.32 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:53. Weight was 144.4.

Training Run 09/16/2023

Hurricane Lee is passing offshore. Perfect time for some hills work. Nice and cool, breezy, and not too much rain. Ideal.

Today’s run was about a one mile warm-up and a run up a 0.87 mile climb that averages about a 9% grade. Pace was 10:27. Weight was 144.8.

First day back on the road. Flights back from the race on Sunday were cancelled, so we rented a car and drove back all night Monday/Tuesday. Taking a few days to rest up after all that was probably a good idea. Now it’s back to work.

Today’s run was an easy 4.22 mile mildly rolling route. Pace was 10:04. Weight was 144.8.
