One more relaxed early morning run. Take it easy on the knee. Also a nice, mild, clear morning. The Bondi 8 shoes are working just fine. I’ll start to mix in the Carbon X3 shoes so that I get the work from both. The X3s are the shoes for race day, since they’re lighter.

Today’s run was an 11 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:59. Weight was 145.2.

A mild, humid, typical summer early morning for a run. I just relaxed and focused on good form and footwork. The knee didn’t really complain much. The Hoka Bondi 8 shoes are also a help. More pad there than the Carbon X3.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was a cautious 9:58. Weight was 146.6.

Decided to give the knee one more day without the impacts from running. Nice to have the bike on the indoor trainer to put in some work without having to be out on a bike in a thunderstorm.

Today’s ride was about 36 minutes. Weight was 145.2.

A short, un-timed test run in the new Hoka Bondi 8 shoes. I’ll mix runs from now on between the Carbon X3 and Bondi. I’ve thought about doing this for a while, and after some reading it makes even more sense.

Today’s run was a 1.05 mile short loop around the house. Easy, un-timed pace. Weight was 145.6.

The knee is really sore. I think I figured out why, though. When I get held up at intersections (and there are several), the side-to-side in-place running that we do while waiting is putting a torque on the knee. I’ve felt it several times. Aha. OK — stop that. No more torque.

Today was a no-impact day on the bike for 45 minutes. Weight was 146.6.

Training Log 06/24/2023

Today was a test day: run the same route as Thursday but with an old pair of Hokas (Cliftons). Very interesting. Different shoes work muscles a little differently. As expected, the stresses of running distribute differently. Bottom line: train in different shoes. The new pair of Bondi X are already on order.

The right knee is really sore, but I think that’s just the result of whatever caused me to twist it last week. Give it a rest tomorrow, and wear a brace/wrap. I did the same thing with a twisted ankle.

No quit.

Today’s run was the same 12.5 mile rolling hills route as Thursday. Pace was a faster 9:41. Weight was 145.8.

One more cool morning for a run. Foggy though. I took it a bit easy to see how the knee felt. Hard to say.

I starting to wonder about shoes. I’m feeling sore after runs. You could have issues like that if the shoes aren’t OK. I might switch out tomorrow to test it out.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 10:01. Weight was 146.8.

Training Log 06/20/2023

I was planning on a 12.5 mile run, to catch up some with the miles I missed over the weekend. However, I decided to trim back to 8 miles so as to not get too far away from home if the knee suddenly started to complain. Yesterday was a short test, today a longer test.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:52. Weight was 147.0.

The right knee felt sore after Friday’s run. As much as I hate to, I took a few days off to see how things recovered. I decided this morning to try a short run to see exactly how the knee was. No real problems. After about 20 seconds I ramped it up to push the pace.

Today’s run was a bit of a rolling 1.05 mile test route. Pace was 8:40. Weight was 146.0.

Same weather conditions as yesterday. Cool and mostly clear, not much wind, dry, etc. Most of the road puddles are gone, but some of the road lakes are still around. Also, the road berms have some debris washed up from storms a few days ago. Glad that it starts getting light at 4:30.

Had the same “legs feeling tired” issue today. I’m thinking that it’s “all in my head.”

Today’s run was an 11.0 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:51. Weight was 146.0.
