Used yesterday to mow the prairie get caught up in general. Time to get back to road work. Lake Placid is in four weeks. Still feeling this cold/covid. Whatever. Head down and go.

Went out to run at about 11:45AM. Sunshine and in the 60’s. I’ll take it. Had to sort-of rescue a small dog who ran out onto a busy road just to say “hi.” I’ve had it happen before, especially with larger-breed puppies. No discipline and bottled-up energy. “Oh, boy!! Let’s go run with that guy!!”

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:41. Weight was 143.0.

Came back from Cincinnati with Covid. Oh, joy. It seems like a cold with a fever, but I’ve been taking it easy never the less. Better to be cautious. We’ve all heard horror stories.

This morning was the first run after the race on Sunday. Just wanted to get out and see how everything felt. Started “creaky” but got better. Nice, cool, dry weather.

Today’s run was a 2.18 mile mostly flat route. Pace was 9:57. Weight was 143.0.

Training Log 05/07/2023

Race day. Had everything ready to go. I packed a bit, and I’m glad I did. That includes rain gear. Didn’t need the pants or jacket since it was 61 degrees at the 6:30 race start time. I did pack into the CamelBack the rain jacket just in case.

The deluge (and I mean utter deluge) started maybe a mile into the race. We crossed three large bridges in a nasty lightening storm. Wow. It poured for about 20 minutes and all the roads turned into rivers and lakes. Except for running through big metal framing with lightening all around, it didn’t bother me one bit. Liquid coolant. I’ll take it.

I felt pretty good throughout the race, especially in the later miles. Yeah, I was tired and things were aching a bit, but I was pushing and didn’t feel at all like the energy was gone. Very different than the Hyannis Marathon in March.

Today’s race was the Cincinnati “Flying Pig” Marathon. Time was 4:26:48, which was a 10:11 pace. The pace in the first 6.4 miles was 10:29 because of soooooo many people on narrow, flooded on/off ramps. The people running the half didn’t split off until about mile 8. The last half pace was 10:03 and the last mile was 9:43.

Training Log 05/05/2023

A misty, damp morning for an early run. Temperature around 43 degrees. Whatever.

The goal for today was to get out and put in some distance without pushing too much. Imagine that it’s the first part of the upcoming race on Sunday. Manage the pace and the energy level.

Today’s run was an 11 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 10:04. Weight was 146.0.

A rather cool morning, especially for May. Temperature around 40 degrees. Nice clear skies though. Perfect for a relaxed run.

The knee is “sore.” Odd. I suspect that I hyper-extended it slightly. One of those things you notice when it happens but doesn’t seem to be an issue at the time, so you forget about it. Annoying. Something to keep an eye on but not something that changes any plans.

Today’s run was a 5.12 mile hills route. Pace was 10:06. Weight was 146.2.

Training Log 05/02/2023

Cool morning for a run. Temperature around 42 degrees. Lucked out and managed to get out and back before more rain rolled in.

Things aren’t feeling too bad. The right knee is getting better. I’ve “rested” about as much as I can spare.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:48. Weight was 147.2.
