Training Log 02/28/2022

First run of over 10 miles. The mental training to develop the patience to sit back and relax is as challenging as the physical work.

Today’s run was a 10.6 mile rolling hills route. Pace was a “just finish” 10:06.

A post-snowstorm morning. Fortunately, the roads were mostly plowed, and with a bright, clear sky the Sun turned what was still on the road to slush or melted it altogether. Berms were totally filled in with snow — ugh! Run along that white line at the edge of the road.

Today’s run was a mostly flat, improvised 4.22 mile route. Pace was 9:28. Weight was 151.2.

A warm, damp early morning. Temperature was around 55 and windy. I’ll take it. It’ll be 70+ at 4AM in no time.

One thing that goes along with ramping up the distance is not eating anything before the run. Go longer without the pre-run fueling. I always drink about 8 to 10 ounces of a SIS electrolyte mix, but for longer runs I’ll also eat some oatmeal before heading out. Today was the first longer run without it.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:51.

Feels like the first hints of early Spring. The sun already feels very warm.

Another advantage of a run after sunrise is the opportunity to scope out where all the potholes are. Nice to know for those 5AM runs. My wife also saw a skunk early this morning in a neighbors yard. One more road hazard.

Today’s run was a 5.1 mile hills route. Pace was 9:34.

Training Log 02/17/2022

Took a few days off to rest my back. Shoveling snow sometimes is a bit of a strain. Not an issue, just annoying. I’ve learned over the years to listen to the feedback though — rest when needed.

Today’s run was a fairly flat 7.15 mile route. Pace was 9:34.

Training Log 02/14/2022

More snow, along with shoveling. Lots of covered side streets this time. Half running and half sliding along at times. It is more and at a slower pace on snow-covered streets.

Today’s run was a 2.15 mile mostly flat route. Pace was a snow-slowed 10:17.

Training Log 02/13/2022

A snowy morning. Most streets were clear but there were patches, and the berms were a bit slick. Nice morning for a run though. Ramping up the distance.

Today’s run was a rolling hills 8.05 mile route. Pace was 9:55.

Training Log 02/12/2022

A warm morning for February. Temperature around 50 degrees, no wind, and mostly sunny. Too bad that today was a short run. Tomorrow (“long run Sunday”) will probably be raining!

Today’s run was a mostly flat 2.15 mile route. Pace was 9:41.

Training Log 02/10/2022

Ah, the grind. The hardest part is getting up when it’d be so nice to sleep another hour.

Today’s run was a fairly flat 4.15 mile route. Pace was a relaxed 10:02. Lots of potholes to dodge in the dark.
