Nice, humid, clear early morning for a run. This is the last run (perhaps) before Sunday’s “Triple Threat” race (1 mile, 5K, then a half marathon). Looking forward to in-person races again.

Today’s run was a 10.6 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:18. Weight was 148.0.

I bought a more trimmed down Camelbak and tested it on the run. Not the best. It doesn’t really fit snug unless you really tighten it down. If you don’t tighten it so much then it bounces around and if you get it tight then it rides up and scrapes on your neck. The hydration line has nowhere to go when not needed. It literally just hangs down by your arm, or flops all over the place if you’re running. It’s better because it doesn’t feel like a vest but that’s it. What I’ll try is to add a strap around the waist to keep it from bouncing all over the place. Out of the box: bad. Time to try some hacks.

Today’s run was a rolling hills 12.5 mile route. Pace was 9:39. Weight was 148.6. The time and pace are somewhat estimated because I stopped three times (!!!) to try adjusting the Camelbak to get it to fit.

Nice, slightly cool morning for a run. The only issue was the turkeys on the road. C’mon, guys, pick a side of the road!

Today’s run was a 5.1 mile hills route. Pace was 9:40. Weight was an interesting 150.2. After Sunday’s run it was 144.0.

Today was a bike recovery ride day anyway, so I scheduled some car work so that i could use the ride from and back to the shop as the day’s ride. There are ways to work everything in.

Today’s ride was a 5.5 mile route with some climbing. Nothing steep but uphill grades are a better workout. Pace was 5:05. Weight was 148.2.

Today was a run that seemed hard right from the start. At about mile 9 it was getting that ragged feel to it. The target was 24.4 miles but after 18 I was spent. One important lesson that I’ve learned is to listen to your body. Pushing too hard if it’s not an actual race isn’t worth the risk of injury or something worse.

Today’s run was an 18 mile rolling hills route on a cloudy, 70 degree, humid, light spritzy rain morning. Pace was a tired 10:07. Weight was 147.0 before the run and 144 after. Interesting. I had my Camelbak — maybe I wasn’t taking in enough fluids. That’s what training/practice runs are for. Test, test, test.

Waited until the Sun was up for a while to get out for a shorter run. Training in the warmer, more humid conditions is a better workout per mile than if it’s dark and cool. Definitely more work.

Today’s run was a 3.77 mile four-loop course around home to include a local short hill that goes from an 8% to a 12% grade. Pace was 9:29. Weight was 147.4.

Training Log 07/22/2021

Today’s run was a 5.1 mile hills route taken at a very relaxed pace. The focus was on good running technique and keeping everything very controlled. Somewhat cool weather so a light jacket helped to maintain a warmer environment feel. Don’t want to actually get used to cool air when upcoming races will surely be in warm, humid air and probably baking sunshine. Pace turned out to be 9:59. Weight was 147.8.

The mid-week runs are bumping up, as they should. The goal is to get the longer distances more the norm rather than the exception. It takes time though. Sigh.

Today’s run was a 12.5 mile rolling hills route. Pace was 9:43. Weight was 148.4.

Training Log 07/19/2021

Today was a recovery bike ride. Push a bit at times but primarily just get out and loosen things up. The knee is sore from yesterday’s long run so hopefully it’ll feel better as the day progresses.

Today’s ride was a 7.1 mile mostly flat route. Pace was 4:33. Weight was 147.4.

Sundays are usually the day for the long run, and today was no exception. A warm, very muggy and often rainy morning isn’t the best but it beats thunderstorms or baking sunshine and heat. We did have thunderstorms earlier in the morning (4:30 AM or so).

Today’s run was a 21.8 mile mostly flat but a few hills type of route. Very tired at the end but not totally wiped out. Pace was 9:46. Weight was 147.2.
