Training Log 05/31/21

Not the best weather for a long run. Rain and cold (maybe 50). Once I get going I don’t really notice. Just put my head down and press on.

Rain does introduce the risk of stepping into a pothole or some other nasty depression. No way to tell a puddle from a hole. I definitely watch and keep to the bare pavement. Traffic is pretty good about not beeping horns when they go around. I’m not out in the middle of the road but sometimes I’m forced into a lane a bit. A few people go by close but most give me a wide berth.

Today’s run was a 13.1 mile rolling hills route. My watch wouldn’t display when I finished (too cold??) but it did record 2:07:32, so I’m guessing based on an estimated end time that the pace was about 09:49. Weight was 151.0.

Training Log 05/29/31

The cold rain has arrived. Temperatures were around 48 with a windchill around 40. If you have the gear, though, it’s not really that bad at all. Water-resistant rain jacket, pants and gloves, and I wear a baseball cap in addition to the hood on the jacket. It helps to keep the rain out of my eyes.

Today’s run was a 2.2 mile short mildly rolling route. Pace was 09:41. Weight was 148.8.

Training Log 05/28/21

Not a bad morning for a run. No rain and cool. I’ll take it when I can get it.

The ankle is holding up. The wrap I wear each day is letting me train without appearing to inhibit recovery. We’ll see as the weeks go on, but so far, so good.

Today’s run was an 8.05 mile mildly rolling hills route. Pace was 09:47. Weight was 150.8.

Training Log 05/26/21

Great early morning for a run. Clear skies and cool. Pretty soon it’ll be 70 degrees and 120% humidity at 5AM.

Today’s run was a relatively flat 7.15 mile route. Pace was 09:33. Weight was 150.0.

Training Log 05/24/21

Time to start ramping up the distance. The wrap for my ankle seems to work — I don’t notice anything really, although I’m extremely careful to watch for anything that’s going to require an inward roll or pull. Running on the right side of roads is usually ideal since the downward slope is left-to-right.

Today’s run was a 5.65 mile hills route around home. Pace was 09:52. Weight was 152.2 (no idea why it’s up like that).

Training Log 05/23/21

Today was a nice early morning for a run. Temperatures were in the 50’s and clear skies. Nice to get out on the road after the Sun’s up.

Today’s run was a 4.0 mile hills route. Pace was 09:47. Weight was 150.4.

Training Log 05/20/21

Another day for the short 4.0 hills route around home. Weather was ideal — cool and no rain. No real issues with the ankle. This “every other day” running may be the right approach for the ankle. Maybe.

The pace was 09:45. Weight was 150.2.

Training Log 05/18/21

Today’s run was a short 4.0 mile hills route staying close to home to not worry too much about both the annoying ankle and also a bit of knee irritation. Not bad, but not something to ignore. Pace was 9:52. Weight was 150.0.

Training Log 05/15/21

Today was a short, hilly 2.3 mile run to both speed things up and also not do too much the day before the log run. Sunny and temperature in the low 50’s. Pace was 9:02. Weight was 149.6.

Training Log 05/14/21

Ideal early morning for a run. Temperature around 41, clear skies and no wind. No skunks, either. The ankle is still annoying, even after a four day break to let it recover a bit. I also felt a few twinges in the knee but they didn’t persist.

Today’s run was a 7.15 mile fairly flat route. Pace was 9:41. Weight was 150.4.
